Q27 Compartments
Quint 27, like many units had tools stacked on other tools
and equipment sliding around in compartments.
They decided to make a change and organize their unit like they wanted
it. They teamed up with shops and custom
designed their compartments. This action
has lead to several units becoming more organized and created a system for new
units to get outfitted from the start.

Here is an option for pulling a 200' triple fold rackline in a confined space. This is used when you have to pull the line parallel to the engine.

Absorbent Filled Training Hose
Captain Kalmus brought this training idea back from the Calgary FD (Canada). We use this hose for Fire Ground Survival (Saving Our Own) and other evolutions where we follow a "charged hose line". In the past we used air to charge the hose but there were always issues with leaks or missing connections. The absorbent also creates a more realistic feel compared to air.
Of course, you can use water but sometimes we train in environments that need to stay dry or we do not have power or an engine.
We hang the hose from our training tower and fill it with absorbent and then fill the ends with can spray foam insulation.

Chain Saw Bar- 16" vs 20"
Our department runs 16" chain bars. We are currently in a trial period gathering feedback on 20" bars. We found the 20" bar keeps the firefighter more upright and increases reach, especially when working off a roof ladder.
We are looking for more feedback. What size bar do you work with? Do you think the 20" is far superior over a 16" or is it negligible?
